What we cook

We live our passion, that being the traditional Czech cuisine. We often look back in time for inspiration, when meals were hearty and genuine, prepared with love by housewives who truly knew their way around the kitchen. We like to keep the magic, only adapt it to a modern environment. We work strictly with local meat suppliers and only use prime ingredients. Our meals are healthy but proper at the same time.

Who cooks

Michael V., who mastered his cooking skills mainly in Sweden. In our restaurant, we all like to follow Michael’s credo – every guest should feel royally after leaving our table, just like the royal families of Sweden and Norway that Michael used to prepare meals for while working abroad.

Where we cook

Nebovidská Street

The word best describing our restaurant is authenticity. The genius loci of Prague’s magnificent Old Town and the 16th-century baroque house we have been settled in since 1993 is only doing us justice. The symbol of the blue duck is historical, and has been preserved as a recognition sign of the house until this day. The name „U Modré kachničky“ is thus still perceived as an indication of tradition and local character.

Michalská Street

Our second restaurant is located only a few steps from the Old Town Square. Meals and the unique atmosphere are being offered to our guests here since 2000. We like to believe that, especially in the bustling city centre, it is sometimes good to slow down and taste the town in every sense of the word – preferably at one of our tables with exceptional food.

Chef

Michael V. is one of the few Czech chefs who have succeeded abroad.

For several years he mastered his cooking skills particularly in Sweden, where he prepared meals for the King of Sweden and the King of Norway, among others. In his career at U Modré kachničky he has cooked for a long list of world famous guests, including Václav Havel, Sean Connery, Tom Cruise, Gérard Depardieu or Pink Floyd. However, our chef himself does not pay much attention to neither name nor fame - you as a guest are entitled to impeccable service at all times, regardless of who you are or where you come from.

Michael loves to look for new ideas in old cookbooks and give long forgotten meals a fresh modern touch. You are welcome to try some of his finest recipes in the comfort of your own kitchen.

Wine list

We like to think about food, but thinking about wine is just as important. We are able to fine-tune the taste of good food with the taste of our many Moravian and world wine brands. No matter what the occasion is, our sommelier will be at your service to make sure you choose the perfect match for your meal. In case you are not a wine person, you are most welcome to choose one of our offered beers, liquors and soft drinks.

We have accomplished this in our restaurant, where the smallest detail is equally important as the ingredients we use in our recipes.
